Charlie’s Campaign Issues
I am running to be your representative so that we can get our local economy moving again in the right direction. After listening to residents, my campaign will focus on the following important issues:
RECOVERY -I will work with our anchor economic drivers (UWEU and CVTC) to better position them to adjust to post COVID 19 realities. The COVID 19 pandemic has caused many UWEA and CVTC students to rethink their education. As our University and CVTC continue to work on reopening for in-person instruction this fall, they will need a strong supporter in Madison to assist them with innovative programs to entice current and prospective students to attend and return. I will work with them to further implement innovating delivery models that combine online courses, adaptive learning technologies, and people to people interactions. I will continue to fully support UWEU and CVTC’s efforts to add value to our economy through their business and entrepreneurial outreach and movements towards more private/public partnerships. I support a continuation of the UW tuition freeze making college more affordable for all Wisconsin students.
RETOOL-creative educational options so they can better meet the needs of students and the market place. I will champion those investments in job training and apprenticeship programs. I believe we need to support commonsense investments to ensure an innovative and robust public school system. I will work for the freedom of choice in educational options including, but not limited to, charter schools, home schooling, virtual schools, and a school choice voucher programs. These programs give all children access to a quality education, regardless of their ability to pay.
RESHORING- Wisconsin needs to urgently design policies to boost the production of critical medical goods so that jobs can be created in Eau Claire and we are less relient on overseas manufacturing.
REMOVING-harmful restrictions and burdensome redtape, especially those discovered through our governments recent response to the COVID-19 crisis.
RE-ENGAGE DOWNTOWN- I will listen to concerns and work collaboratively on soultions. States that enact pro-growth policies that protect their Main Streets have a decisive competitive advantage in economic recoveries than those that do not. The restaurants, bars, and small specialty shops, that create jobs and lend unique character to Downtown Eau Claire need to survive. These small business owners are our neighbors and deserve support and not criticism-I commit to helping these small businesses to keep Downtown Eau Claire competitive and strong.
REFORM-I pledge to work to control spending in Madison and stop pushing the burden of an expanding state government onto future generations of Eau Claire taxpayers. Excessive financial burdens will severely limit the opportunities and freedoms of our children and our grandchildren.
